#ChangeTheNow (#CTN) with Drawdown Toronto at Georgian College
Each semester student participants are engaged in programming that helps them to build 21st century employability skills, such as empathy, teamwork, leadership and changemaking in action. They learn foresight and systems thinking to tackle global issues at the regional level to spark innovation that make our communities greener, healthier, safer, stronger and more inclusive. Community and industry partners, such as Regen Toronto, develop a framework for project briefs for student teams to work on. The partners join the teams at several touch points, as guest speakers to help frame the challenge and offer their expert knowledge while engaging with students, offering inspiration, learning about and evaluating their ideas.
In 2022, Regen Toronto supported Global Summer School with participants from around the world, field placements, applied projects and capstones for students in diploma and post-graduate programs and was part of in-person programming for high school exchange students from Denmark. That year at RISE, an annual Georgian College event that celebrates research, innovation, scholarship and entrepreneurship, SDG 13 – Climate Action became our signature gallery in the exhibit, where visitors could participate in a food-based game to learn about the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the actions we can all take.
Looking ahead, Regen Toronto will be involved in much of the same, in addition to new programming in pre-apprenticeship programs and summer camps, while we create a region of changemakers and a healthier planet for all.
