CBC reporter Emily Chung saw us at Toronto’s EcoFair in November and did a deep dive into refrigerants. Listen to her interview with Laura Lynch and read her article for more information.
Supermarkets are major contributors to global warming through emissions of refrigerants — the chemicals we use in fridges, freezers and A/C units to keep things cool. They are super potent greenhouse gases, thousands of times more powerful than CO2. Leaking refrigerant systems in a single grocery store typically emit as much greenhouse gas in a year as more than 300 cars!
ACTION: Help us collect data on supermarket refrigerant use! Find out which refrigerant gases your local grocery store is using, and put it on the map. Be a citizen scientist. It’s easy — just take 3 to 5 pictures when you shop!
